Tax Treaty - Malta and Serbia
Malta and Serbia signed Double Tax Treaty. This treaty which is a first between the two countries was signed in Valletta.
The agreement was signed by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech and Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, following talks between the latter and his Maltese counterpart Tonio Borg.
In 2008, total trade between the 2 countries was around €1.2 million. Imports are mainly made up of cereals and printed materials, while exports include organic chemicals, pharmaceuticals and clothing.
Dr Borg said that it was important for trade relations to be strengthened further, noting that the agreement made this easier. He added that the exchange of trade delegations could be organised to enhance trade relations between the 2 countries, and encouraged Serbian companies to invest in Malta.
Around 2,000-3,000 Serbian nationals currently reside in Malta.
